Valmic Avalon "Mickey" Maharaj
(aka "Wheels")

HYDE PARK - Valmic Avalon 'Mickey' Maharaj, 26, a lifelong area resident, died Thursday, July 19, 2007 at St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie. He was an actively involved member of the Reach Out Family Worship Center in Hyde Park, and a former member of the Fountain of Life Church in Kingston. Mickey was also a former Boy Scout with Troop # 153 in Hyde Park. A 'trekee', he participated in Star Fleet Federation Simulations as Capt. James Dillon. He was also active with Tres Dias and Vida Nueva. Born in Trinidad on January 7, 1981, he was the son of Reynold and Sheila Khan Maharaj. He attended Dutchess Community College where he was part of the Student Government and a DJ with the college's radio station. In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Peter Khan; three sisters, Indira Maharaj - Mikiel, Sandira Morreale, and Vandira Maharaj, all of Hyde Park; and ten nieces and nephews. As one of Mickey's last requests, please do not wear any dark clothing to his funeral services or calling hours. Calling hours will be from 3 to 5 pm, Saturday, July 21st at Sweet's Funeral Home, Inc., Rte. 9, Hyde Park, and on <b?Sunday, July 22nd from 4 to 6 pm at the Reach Out Family Worship Center, 241 Crum Elbow Rd., Hyde Park. Funeral services will follow at 6 pm, Sunday, July 22nd at the Reach Out Family Worship Center with Pastor Victor Torres officiating. Cremation will take place at the convenience of the family. A memorial service will be held at 1 pm, Saturday, August 25, 2007 at the Reach Out Family Worship Center.
